What is 0-60 APR Stage 1?

It's FWD. Traction issues won't allow you to get that great of a 0-60 time. I honestly think that is one of the most pointless stats ever invented but that's a whole 'nother subject altogether.

Also, it's not fair to compare the time APR got vs C&Ds time. They both used different ways to measure the time. The more accurate test would be APR's numbers stock vs tuned.

True, but APR did only 6.9s stock. They don't say what the ambient temperature was, do they?

Fully agree. While I love to drive spirited and fast, I don't see any sense
in launching from start. However, you'll hardly do this ever on track. It's
more something for guys who cannot drive and need to impress idiots
in the city. Superfluous, pointless, boring.

if it were an awd platform, it could reach high 4's no problem
Not with stage 1. At very best (I doubt it) giving near 300 HP, similar to
the Mk.VII R. None of the Golf Rs in several reviews I've read (dozens)
did reach the optimistic factory claimed 0-100 km/h times.

http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2262

All reliable reviews did prove, the Mk.VII is a 5.5 s 0-100km/h capable
car, with DSG slightly quicker, slightly slower as manual.
This is quite a good value. With street summers or even A/S and FWD
it'll be hard to get better than ~6 s - with ANY power rating. 1st gear
is useless, wheels are spinning, with more than 300 HP even the 2nd.

Collecting data with improper tools and methodology is misleading and pointless.

Official specs are established with two people, fully fueled, and with some luggage.
Even more there are several runs in both directions and precise equipment is used
(e.g. "2D" gear, using 1Hz GPS). Test track are absolutely even. Not by appearance,
but measured. Even more, a windless day is assumed.

I highly doubt very most amateurs do this. Most don't have even heard of that.

Speedos and ordinary 10 Hz GPS gear is imprecise. It's clear such discussions are
as pointless as are Vmax discussions. And again, Brian was right with acceleration
from stop being unimportant.

Sorry for that typo. :(
Self-evidently, 2D gear uses 10 Hz, and ordinary navs just 1 Hz. ;)
Performance and Drift Boxes also use 10 Hz chips.
10 Hz is much more precise, by the factor of 100 to 1000, more
than you'd imagine !!!

it's actually only a factor of 10. going from 1/ second to 10/second. but that actually means for 0-60 times it is going to only be as accurate as 1/10th of a second. I'm not trying to be an ass, but I just wanted to point out the actual difference. a 1hz one is only accurate to the seconds location.

I am in the high 5 sec range, 0-60 short and granny shifting, no launch with my JB1 set to map1 (+3 boost safety), which is much less hp/tq than APR:

For the magazene racers:

Can and Driver and motor trend got in the high 5 sec range with the stock manual.

Whenever I wonder about the limits of FWD cars, I think of the Civic Type R - it has similar factory specs to a Stage 1 GTI, yet somehow it can achieve about 5.1 seconds 0-60. Only edge I can think of is it has really wide tires. Any thoughts as to what makes the Type-R so much faster than the GTI?
