Truth, in my (only 5 years working for pay, but 18 years working in a shop) I've never got to learn from an Import tech, and never taken a class in it. Which makes sense since my shop is a Euro Specialist, but we still work on a lot of import and domestic.

I should also say, that exact point is why I'm not quite sure why doctors make more then auto tech's. Yes they have to do more schooling, but their focus is so simplified and easy compared to working on cars. I mean if a doctor messes up, no big deal (overall, even if the patient dies), but if an auto tech messes something up, or even if something goes wrong with the car completely unrelated, all hell comes down on us.
Example, I have an issue with my foot, I figured I broke it due to some trauma I suffered, my GP agreed and I went to a specialist with X-rays, he said there was nothing wrong and I shouldn't be in pain (even though some days I can barely walk due to foot pain). After months of dealing with it I decided to go to a... skin doctor, figuring maybe it's a bunion or something. The skin doctor instantly identified the problem and got me on a path to fix it. So my question, the first specialist I went to makes 100k+, why couldn't he identify a simple skin issue? I mean that's grounds for termination depending on the severity in an auto shop. This is probably a small indie shop issue then an dealership issue, a dealership being more similar to a hospital.

I am slightly late to the party, but this can't be serious:eek::rolleyes:

Seriously. Saying the human body is focused and simplified is unbelievable. Then when you factor in pathology, be it genetic, infectious or mechanical, incredibly complex. Then you’ve gotta add pharmacology, other treatments, etc. I hope that guy was joking.

Humans are very simple. So simple that we can easily build a human, but not a car. Oh wait.

What made you pull the trigger and switch. Nice looking car.

I live in northern Sweden (lots of snow), so AWD was the main reason. I looked at golf r, audi s3 and the m135i. Wanted to try something new, so went for the m135i.

Makes sense. I live in the southern US, couldn’t justify extra cost for AWD hothatch for my daily driver for the price difference. But if I lived in Sweden I would have too.

Yep I was looking forward to seeing these in the states. But yet again we did not get the cool car :p

We got the x1 135i, which has the n55 in it, and can be found with an M sport package. I contemplated a CPO x1 for a bit , but after watching the GTI vs X1 on Top Gear it was a done deal on the GTI.

Well we did get the chassis and engine. But we did not get the hatchback. That's what I was alluding to :p

Took off my JB1 b/c my clutch started slipping in 3rd and 4th gear. No slip on stock tune though. Car has 6400 miles and has been JB1'd since around 2k miles. Have never launched the car and I don't go WOT at low RPMs or in higher gears.

Today:

. Finally got 034 dogbone insert on -- not easy when you're lowered and have crappy Rhino ramps! So far so good, haven't done an extensive test ride yet.
. Updated JB4 firmware w/old Android burner phone!

I still love this car.

That is a tragic tale. So many people claim it's just a driving style thing coupled with the power, but this would seem to contradict that theory.

I've heard of people using JB1 or JB4 coupled with a tune on stock clutch with many more miles. Seems to be hit or miss as to whether you get a good clutch from the factory.
