hello all. i got the big black WANGER 73mm competition cooler from ebay .. it really is a WAGNER (without the logo).
it has all the same dimensions as the wagner (it is 65mm thick at its thickest points which makes sense because why wouldnt they spec u the thickest part of the intercooler when you need to know how much space clearance is needed to install... but the core itself is 55mm 2.1xxinch.
the 70mm - 73mm spec on the advertisement is the INLETS / OUTLETS... not the size of the core for some people on here saying incorrect things.
still need to install it so cant speak for performance but cant wait to get this bad boy on
There's not much room for size variation in the stock location, did you compare any other aspects of that eBay design with a Wagner IC to see if there are any differences? Weight, fins per inch, charge row height, number of charge air rows? Did you remove the end tank from the eBay and a Wagner IC to compare the internal fin layouts?
the bar and plate ICs on EBAY are older models now... they have smaller inlet / outlets i think 60mm... this is starting to become obsolete on the newer cars / bigger turbos because they need more flow... i think they are good for mk6s and gti turbos (smaller power) but if ur going into is38 models or big power turbos... the bigger inlet/outlet is much better it seems according to racing threads, intercooler specialists, and the manufacturers it seems.
most of the 'newer' model ICs now have tube and fin tech with bigger inlets / outlets... bar and plate is physically stronger but heavier and more expensive to make... and does not necessarily perform better .. actually worse.. but do ur research and decide yourself if you want barplate or tubefin.
wagner are using tubefin and have the best performing IC on the market... have also uprated their inlet / outlets from 62 - 65mm to 70mm... the bigger the holes the better the flow and cooling..
A 10 mm difference in the size of the end tank inlet and outlet is a minor difference compared to how the rest of the end tank and core affect flow.
B&P and T&F have both been around for decades. One is not now becoming obsolete.
Wagner is one of literally dozens of intercoolers, where are you getting that it is the best?
ur gonna be seeing lots of different ones on there.. they are actually catering very precisely to a wide range of customers needs with all the sizes and outlets.. barplate / tube fin e.t.c e.t.c.. u just need to know what u want to get out of it and plans for mods going forward.. otherwise pick 1 that makes u feel warm and tingly inside and it will still work well... ive heard the 60mm intercoolers perform well with big power too but if you can get a better performing / up to date unit then why not.. just check the spec pictures and writeup for dimensions .. all of them are going to be much better than OEM / stock and probably going to be adequate for most needs.. but keep in mind the bigger turbos prefer bigger inlets outlets for track or hard driving... it all depends on what equipment ur gonna be running and what ur using it for... i think the 60mm outlet ones are a straight swap for OEM as u can keep your tubing but obviously if u buy an IC with bigger than 60mm inlet outlet u need to get the bigger tubing too.
