Why white?

Maybe it is me, but why would anyone want a white(light) interior?
I was at a car show on the 3rd day of the event and all of the light colored leather seats had blue marks all over the left side of the seat from people with blue jeans getting in and out of cars.
Now the brown or natural leather seats, if I could get those in my GTI, I would pay for that option.
