I'm just hoping I can get the brushed silver finish.
Considering the production split we have between the 3 finish options, and how early you locked in your pledge, you are pretty much guaranteed for a Brushed Clear set!

On that note, it is important to understand that these deals are "first come, first serve". We only have a limited amount of units being produced for the first run, so the sooner you pledge, the higher the chance that you will get your first preferred selection.

Okay, okay. I pledged for brushed. I'm still waffling on bronze, but I'll try to quiet those monkeys before this ends...

One of the things I dislike about the Mk8 R is the silly mirror caps, but I actually think the brushed finish will make them make sense, tie the whole room together, white russian, that sort of thing.

Spoke clearance is practically the same as the SM-10. However, the VS-5RS has an improved drop well where the spokes meet the center of the wheel, this allows for some additional brake clearance compared to the FF SM-10 in the same 17x9" ET42 fitment. To put this in perspective, when fitment testing on the new MK8R with 360mm factory front brakes, the 17x9" ET42 SM-10 required 3mm spacers to safely clear. However, the 17x9" ET42 VS-5RS was able to clear without any additional spacing, while still maintaining our 3mm threshold of wheel to brake clearance.

Do you have photos of the 17s on the mk8r?

Just pledged for them in bronze. Gonna run a dedicated track tire on these.

Geirsen - will these have the same brake clearance as the SM-10? Any issue with the Macan upgrade?

Supposed to be better clearance than the SM10 since they’ll fit the Mk8 R brakes without a spacer. You should be more than fine with the Macan setup.

What are you planning on? Trying to decide between Yoko A052 and the newish Bridgestone Re71RS.

Unfortunately, no, just the pictures of the MK8 GTI at the moment.

No issues with the VS-5RS 17x9" ET42 clearing Macan brakes! As noted by @bentin the 17x9" ET42 VS-5RS has slightly better brake clearance than the SM-10 and is able to clear the MK8R front brakes without a spacer. However, the 17x9" ET42 SM-10 will need a 2mm-3mm spacer to comfortably clear MK8R front brakes.

Hey all,

I recently made a few adjustments to our forum posts on the Golf MK6/7/8 sites! From here on out, I would like this to be the dedicated Flow Formed SM-10 thread to keep the discussion focused around those wheels specifically. I just launched an all-new VS-5RS Forged technical thread, which has a ton of information on these new wheels. Moving forward, please keep any questions or discussions regarding the new VS-5RS wheels in that thread, which you can find via the following link: Official APEX VW VS-5RS Forged 17" Wheel Thread

I will still be regularly monitoring both threads, as well as the others posted on Golf MK6 and Golf MK8.

Cheers!

My very very late SM-10 FM photos

They are 18"x8.5" mounted with 225/40-18 Michelins PS4S tires with zero stretch issues (or any) on side walls :)
100% stock PP suspension with just a rear APR 25mm sway bar.
