I've always used the block of wood method until it unexpectedly split and actually cracked the plastic underbody shield. Be careful and if you can use ramps.

Hmm interesting. Anyways, well I find it best to just jack from the rear pinch weld which will also raise the front. Then you can pop a jack stand on the front punch weld and lower the rear

How do you get jack stands on both front and rear pinch welds to have the whole side raised for tire rotations?

I typically have used blocks of wood on specified jack points on previous cars. I feel a bit nervous about using it elsewhere. Glad it works for others, but I think I'm going with the retro fitted jack kit just for peace of mind. So just to confirm, there hasn't been any known issues using these jack kits?

Did your wood split with the grain? It really shouldn't across the grain.

that is what I was thinking you need the grain to run perpendicular to the jack point...also consider topping the 2x4 with a piece of plywood to prevent splitting

Yep, perpendicular to the grain and it cracked. I guess too many repeated uses.

Either that or too thin of a block. My neighbor was a mechanic and he used 4x4's. Had the same ones on his lift for as long as i can remember, used multiple times a day for 10+ years
