What 147k mile valves look like 2015 Gti

200GBP would be on the low end. 300-400 depending on where you live, number of dealerships in competition, etc...
Similar cost then essentially, not a lot when you consider it’s 40000miles between services!

OP hope things work out for you. If you keep the car BABY IT to make it last as long as possible so you can pay down the loan. You can always put it up for sale to see if anyone bites. Maybe even privately trade for older lower milage civic or Corolla.

Btw If people think its impressive that dsg lasted 147k miles its not. Most automatics dont even call for transmission fluid change and can easily last as long with out major issues. Leave it to VW to design something overly complicated and expensive to maintain. ?
You should ask Subaru how well "lifetime" ATF worked out for them. A transmission wears just like any other moving automotive component, and there will be a point where the fluid and filter will become inundated with debris and can no longer do its job. Virtually ever single OEM nowadays calls for ATF service around ~60k miles.

There was a long argumentative thread about this with a now banned miscreant here but IIRC the conclusion was that the additives were indeed added at the local Costco tanks.

I'm there every day when the tankers are filling up the Costco tanks. Just go to a Costco and ask to see the additive tank and how they are getting it into the below ground tanks. That's absurd. Then they would have to only add the additive at the same rate the tanker truck was dumping the fuel into the ground so that the fuel didn't have too much or too little additive. That's not even possible. And Santa Claus is real.

That's true of any gas station. Whatever state it is has a department of weights and measures that comes to the gas station and certifies the pumps for the accuracy in your link. It's done by pumping gas into a 5 gallon certified container with a gauge on top showing the accuracy. If the pump is out of compliance the gas station is given a set amount of time to comply and the pump is tested again. If it's out of compliance over a certain amount, which I'm not sure what that amount is, the pump is sealed and can't be used again until it's fixed and retested.

Have you seen how many pumps are at every Costco station, and how they're lined up about 15 cars deep ALWAYS? Compare that to Joe's Shell on AZ92 in Elfrida that sells gas every 45 minutes. Yes, 15,000 to 547 is a huge gap, but the amount of gas pumped per station has got to be tilted VERY heavily towards Costco.

Then why aren't they even in the top ten? Sheesh.

The DSG transmission is technically a manual transmission that's shifted automatically by valves which operate clutches. One clutch for the even numbered gears and one clutch for the odd numbered gears so you can't compare the maintenance to an automatic transmission that use a torque convertor.

Subaru transmissions are known to grenade regardless of service. You’re flipping a coin between transmission destruction or oil consumption issues.

People (especially on here) YouTube a DIY and suffer ramen for a month. Speaking from experience, it’s cheaper than not having wheels.

100% - good for injectors themselves, that's about it in a DI engine. Your oil type (NOAK) and PCV system have more to do with it.

Correct..BUT you have to think about the how the fuel burns as the exhaust Gas recirculation systems takes it & dumps it behind the intake valves....so if your fuel is crap the ERG systems dumps the crap exhaust gas with particulates & coats the back of the valves as per the OP pictures...

OP is in a tough place with this car, high mileage not good for resale. MIGHT find someone that'll pay 5K, but seems that if you're DIY valve cleaning, and replacing waterpump, you have enough skills to keep it alive for quite awhile and drive it til it dies. I would strive to get DSG fluid changed first and foremost. I spent a bit over $100 on my last one and it was shit simple to do. Even at this mileage, it would be beneficial. Check the list of members near you that offer their services to give ya a hand.

Keep your spirits up, things will get better.
