Well, I said I would do it and I did it. The R is gone and the TT RS is here.

Now it's just a matter of selling the accessport I just bought and the spare tire kit.

Congrats! What's your take vs the golf?
Slightly more turbo lag than a stage 1 R, but it really pulls after.
Seats area lot more comfortable and really grip you around corners.

Overall I like it, though I need a few more weeks to form a proper opinion.

What turbo did you run on the R?

A couple dealers called me about an RS3. Apparently the initial buyers fell through due to the mark up. :X

Stock IS38.

I got the TTRS from Audi Steven's Creek. They told me that word came from the top of the Penske group that markups are no longer allowed.

I would go through this and find a dealership that has what you want in stock https://www.penskeautomotive.com/locations/default.aspx
There actually was an RS3 there yesterday but I don't know if it was spoken for.

Surprised the TTRS had more lag.

Slightly more than EQT stage 1, less than stock or IE Stage 1.
So what’s the point of an extra cylinder and half liter of motor if you get more lag? I realize a tune will fix it, but I always equate more displacement with less lag. The Honda Si has lag for days with the little 1.5L.

It's the size of the turbo not necessarily the engine that determines lag.

It goes GTI < R < RS3/TTRS In terms of increasing lag and top end power.

I know the turbo size matters, but my previous 3L straight sixes have had less lag simply because they’re stronger motors off boost. Of course they also have higher compression ratios than our motor, which also influences off boost nature.

But it’s all a moot point to me as I only buy manuals and Audi lost me years ago. Just surprised that a larger motor has more lag.
