you say get your own financing though. Aren't most of the incentives/rebates offered for the GTI based on you financing through VW?

I had my own financing when i bought mine and the dealer reduced the discount by $1000 for not opting VW / dealer financing.

Bought my 2017 GTI Autobahn for around 6k off sticker. $29900 plus taxes. I thought i did quite ok and next day, another dealer emailed offering $4.5k off a 2018 autobahn [emoji24]

2017 GTI S DSG, Carbon Steel Gray Metallic w/Monster Mats & Wheel Locks
MSRP w/destination: $27,830
Discount Sale Price: $21,500
Trade Allowance: $7,892
Tax: $1,108.65
Doc/Title Fees: $283.50
OTD: $15,000.15

My trade was a 2011 Mazda3 GT hatch with nearly 83k miles, which showed the following dealer trade-in values online:
- KBB: $5,490 to $6,913 Very Good
- NADA: $6,725 Average/$7,150 Clean
- Edmunds: $5,969 Clean/$6,595 Outstanding

The car was in decent running condition, but had enough cosmetic issues that I considered it good/average at best. Even assuming the highest trade-in comp at $7,150, I calculate my 'adjusted' price on the GTI at $20,758, even better using KBB/Edmunds rates ($19.8k using KBB's Very Good midpoint).

All in all, I was a happy camper as I went in telling them them what I was willing to pay OTD, was laughed at, and then negotiated them down to the same dollar amount I asked for. :D

Finally joined the family. After weeks of haggling over email with dealers all over SoCal I finally made a purchase.

I strolled into the dealership signed the papers and was out in less than an hr. Could have been faster but the sales manager took forever to get my temp registration on the windshield.

2018 Pure White Autobahn

MSRP: $37,665
Discount: $4,000
Selling Price: $33,665 +TTL

2.9% APR for 72 Months

So happy. Took her out for a road trip put 160 miles on her.

Now to tint the windows and debate whether to do anything else.

May I ask what dealer in SoCal did you get the deal?

2016 S DSG with 25000 for 16K purchased bout a month ago. 2016 DSG Autobahn with PP with 10k just showed up nearby for 18200 and I'm somewhat tempted to eat the 1.5k diff between my trade/owed and get it.

Dealer or private sale. Price seems to be lower and there might be a reason for it.

Dealer. It seems a bit too low, may go check it out anyway as I haven't seen a used autobahn with comparable miles lower than ~21

I have two deals I'm contemplating:

2017 Autobahn Manual (used, 1 owner, 12.5k miles)
$23.5k OTD

2018 SE w/leather Manual
$29.8k OTD

I want the '18 pretty badly and the new VW warranty is just insane but my brain is telling me that the '17 is a much better deal. Thoughts?

Other than the trim and model year, each vehicle might have different options. To compare any deal you gotta provide MSRP, selling price without tax and title, dealer fee (if any). Quoting the OTD is going to help anyone here as tax in every state differs.
