VW designed the MQB platforms to be fully compatible with all drivetrains etc, so only one bodyshell.........
The space is already there

Just different fuel tanks, as the 4wd one is a saddle type 7 the haldex & driveshafts all stop before the gap between the wishbones which is still for the exhaust.

I suppose they might have made the spare wheel well shallower, but diffecult to tell
Anyway defo on the estate they use the same bodyshell for 2wd & 4wd because there is a HUGE amount of room underneath, because the spare wheel is further back
I agree one would think interior room the same but many R owners mention issues in storing the shelf and I think I read issues about spare tire. Might be just that spare can not fit due to subwoofer?
Do you know R owners who can store upper shelf? Maybe share some info for other R owners.
