No, sorry, been busy with other things and on holiday at the moment. It’s a bit scary to start to be honest. Not sure if the cables piggyback off the front door or need to go to the BCM themselves.

this is something that I am also considering doing ... but they have not provided instructions on where to connect the cables to the various pins ???

https://it.aliexpress.com/item/1005001488738032.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.5fb52e0equoG8p

the ideal would be to find only the led strips to put inside the door trim... I tried to ask but they only sell the complete kit.
You'd be out of luck just installing some LED strips. There's always going to be wiring required to add the channels for colour.

yes sure, but I meant to spend less ... I don't need plastic door strips.

I specifically asked the seller (doki store) if there are all the instructions for connecting the cables to the various pins of the control units ... let's see what he answers.

Have you checked to see if your BCM is compatible first? That's the biggest stumbling block for most, especially if you have a pre-facelift car.

I think it is ... I've done so many retrofits that it would be a hoax if it weren't.

my bcm is high
my gateway is high

what should i check specifically?

5Q0 937 084 AN is too old for RGB ambient lighting. You need one of a few specific facelift BCMs, and it's NOT an easy swap!

Just as an FYI, I have a facelift GTI and my BCM hardware number is the same: 5Q0 937 087 AN. I would try to code it manually and see what results you get. These are my BCM details from OBDeleven:

Control unit: 09 Central Electrics
System description: BCM PQ37BOSCH
Software number: 5Q0937087AR
Software version: 0243
Hardware number: 5Q0937087AN
Hardware version: 034
Serial number: C86414081701LU
ODX name: EV_BodyContrModul1UDSBosc
ODX version: 018001

Try these adaptation changes:

Module 09 (Central Electrics)
Security access -> 31347
Adaptation
Submenu - Int. Light, 2nd generation
- Instrumententafelbeleuchtung mehrfarbig -> active

Submenu - Interior light, light configuration
- Ambientemenue mit globalem aus -> active
- Ambientemenue mit alle Zonen -> active
- Ambient_Farbliste_HMI -> active

Submenu - Interior lighting, parameter
- p_ambienteumfang_mehrfarbig_HMI -> 100
- p_ambienteumfang_mehrfarbig_HMI_2 -> 100
- p_ambientelicht_verbauinformation_HMI -> 11111111
- p_ambientelicht_verbauinformation_HMI_2 -> 11111111

And reset your multimedia by pressing the volume knob until it restarts. Then check to see if you now have an Ambient Lighting menu in your Car Settings.

My GTI should have the right BCM, and I only need the coding so I can make the lights red. They probably glow white without coding?

Are they not selling just the lights package like I bought? I wasn't after the trims either as I wanted to keep mine, but technically it would be easier that way as far as installing the lights into the doors.

I guess if I had a lower series car I'd be interested in the full package with trims, but then probably wouldn't have the right BCM?

Double check, because not a lot of Golf's do actually have the right BCM for 10/30 colour ambient lighting.

It needs not only the correct adaptations to be available, but also the correct pins for the LIN bus.

I know the following are compatible with 10 colour:
- 5Q0937084CD
- 5Q0937084CE
- 5Q0937084CF
- 5Q0937084CG
- 5Q0937084CM
- 5Q0937084CN
- 5Q0937084CP
- 5Q0937084CQ

I also know the following are compatible with 30 colour:
- 5Q0937086BE
- 5Q0937086BF
- 5Q0937086BG
- 5Q0937086BH
- 5Q0937086BJ
- 5Q0937086BK
- 5Q0937086BL
- 5Q0937086BM

That's not the same part number...

Ooops! I was looking at the "AN" part. My advice though is don't just instantly give up - haha. Check your adaptations to see if you have those values and enable them. My BCM numbers are not on your list, yet it supports colors.

Might I bring this to your attention:

"It needs not only the correct adaptations to be available, but also the correct pins for the LIN bus."

Do you have the LIN bus pins?
