Radar Detector Wiring

VWGTI

Ready to race!
So I have a radar detector that I want to hardwire into the car (as in a fuse). However, I already have a dashcam installed on the car which takes up the driver's side area that can be used for wiring into the fuse box. This means that the only way that I can think of wiring it is to run a cable to the passenger A-pillar, but I'm unaware of a fuse box on that side.

Does anyone have a solution to wire a dashcam when you can't wire it to the driver's side A-Pillar?

Thanks!

Why can't you run two wires down your drivers side a-pillar?

Theres no reason whatsoever you can't run both wires to your fuse box down your driver's a-pillar.

I already have two wires running down to the driver's a-pillar since my dashcam has cables for the rear and front camera. The problem, is not the a-pillar itself, but I've run out of room to run the cable from the mirror to the pillar

You’ll be fine, just make sure that you are not overlapping the airbag

I'm not concerned about the a-pillar itself, but I need to get it to the a-pillar. Where the wires can be routed, there are already two wires there leaving me with no extra space for a third for the radar detector

I’ll have to get to my car and take a pic and I won’t be able to do that until Saturday but it’s actually doable without damaging anything I have 3 cables going to the fuse box with no issues at all
I’ll try to take a pic on Saturday
Best way to to remove the weatherstrip completely from the area that you want to work on if you didn’t already do that and in my case there is visible sign of the cables going in there

Hmmmm. How thick is the gauge on your dashcam cables? Cause I have the ones that came with the Blacksys dashcam and they are pretty hefty to begin with

Hey sorry that I haven’t posted the pictures I haven’t taken the GTI out since I don’t use it or see it every day.
I have a BlackVue and an Escort Redline with a remote so I have 3 set of cables going up and down from the mirror area to the fuse box, I wouldn’t say that they are too thick , I’ll post old pics, but as long as you remove the rubber you will be able to hide and manage the cables nicely, you can use Tessa tape to prevent rattles too.
These are 3 year old pics but the same applies.
You’ll see that opening between the metal and the plastic and that’s where all my cables go in and they come from the top of the A pillar super easy, don’t put any cables that will block the access panel on the side red X mark thingy.

Hmmm I'll have to check to see if I can fit that third cable up there. Did you just end up forcing in using a plastic trim removal tool?

No forcing anything below the A pillar cover, the only are where you can have a bit of an issue would be where the headliner meets the sun visor , I used a trim tool there to push them in.
