just an update, I reached out to IE support and they confirmed stage 1 low torque is carb certified. CARB EO D-838-3. that makes 3 with APR and 034.

I still haven’t had to smog my car and I just recieved renewal papers in the mail today. I was thinking I was going to have to smog it this year, I’m guessing definitely next year ??

Just failed smog. Didn't pass visuals. Intake was Injen Evolution and had CTS catted downpipe. They looked for the 2nd cat. Then failed readiness. I'm sure it's because of the stage 2 tune.

Didn't want to risk it so I flashed back to stock. Returned parts back to stock and passed.

Put back the Intake since that was quick and flashed back to a stage 1. Miss the stage 2 power but I don't know if I want to deal with the cat again.

I'm assuming the Evolution isn't CARB exempt. Once an inspector has a reason to look for things you're in trouble if there are other mods.
Readiness you can check with OBD11 or VCDS so you save yourself the time spent going for the initial test.

Yup. The Evolution is not CARB exempt. It's been a long time since I've smogged a modified car. Didn't expect them to be so thorough.

This guy was very detailed. He pulled up the intake online to confirm that it's not CARB exempt. He found an online picture of the stock downpipe and showed me what it looks like. He stated that there was no 2nd cat on my downpipe and showed me that the Readiness check failed. I asked for clarification on that but he didn't know. He just said I was tuned but I think he was guessing. I was worried that even flashing back to stock wouldn't work. Since it passed, I'm theorizing that it was just a readiness check.

Good to know that the OBD11 can check for readiness.

I had a guy that was pretty thorough. I brought in my 2008 A3 with a Neuspeed intake. He looked up the EO number on Neuspeed's site and couldn't find the number. Wouldn't smog the car. I went down the street, and the guy at shop 2 didn't even ask me about it. My GF has a Cooper S that threw an engine light. He reset the light and said that if the light doesn't come back on after a few cold starts...he'd pass me...even though one of the readiness codes did not set. After about a week I took the car back...and he passed me.

I've taken my TDI to the same place for all of it's tests. Neuspeed intake which has the sticker. The tech certainly did not go look it up, but quite possibly saw the sticker so moved on.

Diesel can have 2 monitors "not ready," whether is failed or just not set. Cannot have an active CEL but a pending CEL still passes. Reset of the CEL sets all the monitors to "not ready" so that won't work.

I don't know how the station could "pass" me if that was something they willing to do (or that I needed). Whatever they are using for the tests just showed pass after he disconnected from the OBD.
