Money Shift warning...

I remember my brother trying to drop from 6th into 4th while taking an off ramp, and instead finding 2nd in his fox-body Mustang.

The only thing that saved his engine was the fact that those cars had so little traction, at the best of times, that the rear end completely broke loose. Basically, it felt like he'd grabbed the e-brake, at 90km/h. To this day, neither of us can figure out how we didn't end up in the ditch.

That car was constantly trying to kill its occupants...a lot of fun to drive though.

I come from having an RSX-S and S2000 previously and LOTS of RSX people were blowing motors because of this...I was always taught when racing to backhand the 3-4 shift (so my tumb is on the bottom part of the shifter, knuckles facing the headunit)...has always worked well and have heard of this method from many other drivers
This exactly!

Here's a great video explaining how to avoid miss shifting:

the Celica 7th Gen 2ZZ was notorious for mis shifting, especially the 2000-2001 model. Wouldn't know since I had a 1ZZ. :(
