That 10 dollar converter is not going to clean anything up....

now running the lc7i in my setup did make a minor but noticeable difference in the subs clarity. But the real big difference in this subs output and clarity came when I ran the signal through the lc7i then through the Dayton DSP to the sub, that was night and day.

Don't tell me that, I don't want to go down that rabbit hole, but you're forcing me. Damn you man.

Does anyone have a tutorial (video or written) on where is best to run the power wire and where to tap into the rear speakers for the Cerwin Vega?
I just received mine last night and hoping to install it after work.

After looking closer the CV is just 2 smaller subs inside the enclosure.

Best way is a mini dsp.

Easier way is to install a bass blocker in line to the speakers
That's interesting, since the owners manual for the CV lists it as an 11.3" sub. are they putting two 5.5" drivers in it and just giving us the total area, I wonder?

Also: Bass blockers. I see little has changed in the 20+ years since the last time I did anything with mobile audio. Are we still dismantling the doors and wiring them up right next to the speakers, or is there a better location for them?

No idea on the speaker wires, but they'd have to be accessible by removing the trim for the B-pillars, as that's where they'd have to go if they're coming into the rear doors.

As for the power wire, up the driver's side, and then find a tutorial on running the OBD cable when installing a JB4 to get it through the firewall. There have to be dozens of those out there.

Found this helpful video just now about the firewall/power line:

Still need to figure out the rear speaker situation though.

Yup, that's where my JB4 cable passes through the firewall. (y)

Oh, and the other thing I just thought of: where to run the cable for the remote, and where to mount it in the car? I suppose one could just set it up and then leave it in the trunk, but having the adjustable bass level might come in handy sometimes.

sorry,

i got confused when i read "CV" i was thinking he was talking about the CDT unit,

I have the Cerwin Vega unit and can 100% confirm its a meaty 12" sub.

yea as far as power, yup that's where i run LOTS cables (even have the driver front 3/8" air line through that grommet, lol)

I tapped the speakers behind the dash but that's cause i wasn't smart enough to thing of the B pillars. lol

I have the remote ran back up to the front of the car and keep the remote in the glove box... some rock songs just don't sound good with crazy bass so i turn the booster down at times.

I saw that, and thought you'd taken it apart to see what's inside. (y)

You say that, but in my mind your way makes more sense, since it doesn't require as much trim removal, on both sides of the car. And unless I'm mistaken, there's no reason one couldn't install the capacitors/bass blockers under the dash as well, right? That's probably the route I'll take.

Now all I need is wiring diagram, so I'll know which wires to tap...

Ok, hopefully this is the last of the idiot questions before I make a decision and start sourcing the parts: what cutoff frequency would you recommend when using the factory door speakers? The CV's control has that dial from 50-150, so I would think 150 would be ideal, right? I'm also assuming all 4 should be bass-blocked.

The door speakers may get replaced at a later date (because I know how gateway drugs work), but if that does happen, we'll worry about the particulars then.

Thanks again for all of your advice! (y)

If you do doors, JL C1's fit with a 1/2 spacer, components in front, 2 way in rear, and sound freaking amazing.

Don't be a fool like me and source the wrong power cable (CCA)! The Cerwin Vega instruction manual states, in all caps, to never use a CCA wiring kit. 🤦‍♂️

AJ - did you tap behind the head unit or the CD player in the glove box?
