I need some opinions on this exhaust setup

Ok, so you asked if there are better performance mods than a dp and exhaust for $800. The answer is definitely, go with an aftermakret intercooler. If you are Stage 1 tuned and want a DP then you will need to jump up to Stage 2 to account for OS sensor. With that out of the way, I am like you in that my mk7 is a daily driver but really want a bit more sound. Granted, I am stock exhaust but have done quite a bit of research and imo a good setup is the Borla S-type cat-back exhaust with a Vibrant 17950 resonator. I have seen videos where the car is mostly quiet up to 3,000rpm then after that it comes alive and, I think, sounds pretty good. No drone. Now, I think we blew your budget by a few hundred but there ya go...

Yall have been sooo helpful and I was not expecting this kind of response! I have decided that although I like the performance gains of a downpipe, its gonna just be too loud for me so I have freed up some of the budge and am looking at intakes.

So I would be looking at keeping this muffler delete:

And going with this res delete:
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-parts/mk7-mk75-gti-resonator-delete-pipe/026146ecs01~a/

I am looking at getting a new intake and I keep seeing mixed reviews about the APR:
https://www.goapr.com/products/engine_hardware/intake/apr_open_pex_intake_system_-_mqb_18t_and_20t/

I'd love to get some real validation on this intake and was thinking of matching it with this:

This all totals to about $750 which is right where I want to be

With the resonator delete you will introduce drone into the cabin... fyi. That may be ok with some so check it out first if you can. Not sure if you have a shop doing this but wonder if you could have the shop put the reso-delete section pipe on and then you could test drive and see if the drone is acceptable for a DD car? Just a thought.

Yeah don’t bother with the res- delete, not in regards to worrying about drone (you would get a notable level of it with a stock DP and cats). But it’s really no aid in getting extra sound - I did a res delete as the first form of exhaust mods and it was 96% in audible for the sound adjustments when running The stock DP, when you switch to a downpipe and high flow cat or especially catless is when the drone gets wild and requires the use of a good resonator.

Sounds like you want some added sounds and fun factor with having some mods Vs having the most efficient $ per hp spent and in that case go with the muffler delete kit (AS LONG AS YOU ARE SURE YOU HAVE NO PLANS TO GO STAGE 2 and up in the future) otherwise it’s going to be an item you spend money on now just to replace down the line when the car gets unpleasant sounding. Also yes the open intake will add a solid fun factor with sound, that ecs thing is good if you like it for looks but if your getting for results the 1/2 degrees lower or 1/2 seconds faster that the IAT sensor sees a drop will be negligible from the drivers seat.

I have the ECS dual air inlet duct and it definitely get more airflow into the filter. Just keep in mind when you get an intake chose one that still uses the stock box so the ECS inlet gets directed to it. You can get 95% of the airflow you would get with an aftermarket intake just by getting a drop in filter. Unless sound is that important to you. And you didn't mention an intercooler and while an IC doesn't add power it will help prevent heat soak so you won't lose power and drop IAT's faster.

You're going to want to keep the resonator at the very least or go with an aftermarket replacement like a Vibrant 17930/17950. The OE resonator isn't much different than a straight pipe anyways. If you look inside it it's just 3 lines of tiny holes and thats it. I just recently did the ECS muffler delete on my 2020 with stock downpipe and resonator and while I love the sound when I get on the throttle there is very noticeable drone when cruising. It gets very boomy/bassy, like you can feel it in the back of your seat, between 1800-2800rpm when accelerating as well. I am going to be swapping the stock resonator for a Vibrant 17930 on Thursday and I will report back here on my experience. I am very much hoping it will get rid of the boomy/raspy drone from the muffler delete.

The Vibrant solved the drone I had which was at the same RPM as yours.

Seems to be the general consensus on the exhaust thread as well. Did you also do just a muffler delete or do you have a different set up?
