We now know that the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible will carry MSRPs of $51,995 and $56,995, respectively. While those base prices represent increases of just $1400 over the outgoing models, how well do they compare by the numbers with other sporty two-doors in the $55,000 range? We’ve rounded up a few of the 2014 Corvette Stingray’s competitors (fun and sporty two-doors with base prices below $60,000) and want to know: For around $55,000, which sporty car would you buy?
While Chevrolet hasn’t confirmed power figures for the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the automaker expects about 450 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque from the new 6.2-liter LT1 V-8. Audi sells two coupes between $50,000 and $60,000 – the 333-hp S5 and 360-hp TT RS, while BMW has the 320-hp 335is coupe (the M3 starts at $62,295 with destination and gas guzzler fees). The base Porsche Cayman packs a 275-hp 2.7-liter F-6 behind the seats and starts at about $2500 more than the new Corvette Stingray.
On the domestic front, the new Corvette Stingray faces competition across the showroom with the 580-hp Camaro ZL1 at about $4500 more. Dodge has the more powerful – yet heavier and $6000 cheaper 470-hp Challenger SRT8 392, while the 662-hp Ford Shelby GT500 is about $3500 more than the Corvette Stingray coupe.
