Dsg bearing noise

So for a few weeks I have been hearing a metal grinding/howling noise. At first I thought it was just a wheel bearing but after tracking it down it seems to be coming from the dsg. It only does it in 5th and 6th gear. It's loudest in 5th gear but still noticeable in 6th gear. It's a 2016 I was tuned with a stage 1 5150 tune and Cobb dsg tune. Car has 89k miles on it now. I have been very adamant about changing my fluids, dsg about every 25-30k miles. I have an appointment to drop it off tomorrow at the dealership. The car seems to drive fine for now except the noise which has gotten louder as time goes on. Just wondering if anyone else has expirenced this issue, and if anyone knows how much a new or refurbished dsg is going to be? I haven't been able to find anywhere to look or buy one either, I'm sure the dealership is gonna be asking for 5k+ to fix this, I just had a baby 2 weeks ago so money is a little tight. Anyone have any input on this?

Unless a shop has a super driveline tech that can diagnose a bearing or bushing to R&R without a full rebuild or replacement, you are probably going to be looking at a drive it until it fails or rebuild/replace scenario. Transmissions can be pretty black magic to a lot of techs, especially DSGs. Actually in one of the links Diggs posted they said that VW doesn't even open DSGs, only replace full units. If that's the case then a specialist VW/Audi shop might be a better bet.

My car only has about 46k on it (and holding) and I've started to notice a whine at 75mph+ in 6th. I also have upgraded mounts, so that could be allowing more noise from the transmission to me. My whine might not be perceivable to others, I'm just sensitive. If your noise is that loud and sounds like impending doom, start shopping around breakers for low mile DSGs or an indie shop that will do a rebuild.

Its definitely the dsg that's making the noise can hear it as soon as you shift it to 5th. It's quite loud, I know the dealership won't open it up and only option will be to replace the transmission. I just haven't been able to find anywhere to buy new or used transmissions. Anyone know of some sites that I can try?

Is car-part.com still a thing? Or LKQ? Local wreckers might be able to track one down for you as well through LKQ or other industry finders.

Is a dealership your only option for having someone look at the car and do the work?

Pretty much not many speciality shops around where I live. This couldn't have happened at a worse time too. So far this has been the only issue I have had with the car for the most part tho.

So just an update, dropped car off at dealership today. They confirmed it was the bearings in transmission. I thought for sure it would get denied for warranty since I have tuned it before. But I think since it's under my extended warranty they approved it. Now just have to wait on a transmission from Germany to arrive. Only have to pay 100$ for the deductible.

Same thing happened to me, bearing in DSG was making a noise, dealer replaced DSG under powertrain warranty even though I also had been tuned both ECU and TCU (but uninstalled AP)...must be a known issue and thats why it wasnt denied...

I too uninstalled the AP, but I think the main reason they didn't car that I was tuned was it was my extended warranty company that was footing the bill and they didn't tell them I had been tuned. They didn't even ask for service records or anything. The dealership just called them up told them the bearings were going out and was approved instantly. They are also cleaning my intake valves but of course I have to pay for that. I'm just hoping it won't take that long to get a transmission in from Germany.

2 weeks isn't too bad already getting close to a week. And the 2020 Tiguan I got for a rental has been nice for the family lol. Hoping once it's all done there won't be any issues. Does the refurbished transmission come with any sort of warranty?

I don't know what the warranty is but it must have a warranty.
