Hey all,

I posted not to long ago as I blew up my transmission, third gear more specifically. I replaced it with a used one with 70k on it and a month later and roughly 1,200 kilometres later it went again.

All I am running is an IS20 with a Stage 2 tune and a 3 inch downpipe.

Do they make a beefier transmission for this car?

Transmission I installed has warranty but it’s a pain in the ass.

Any help is appreciated!

Ugh, sorry to hear - that sux...

I don't have the 5spd, but from what I've read, it seems like the 5spd taps out around 350ish lb/ft of torque which a Stage2 IS20 would certainly be hitting and then some. I've seen a few cases on the forum of 3rd gear blowing up, so it sound like that's probably the weak(est) link.

Here's a few threads of guys that have successfully swapped their 5mt to the 6mt of the GTI after their 5mt tapped out. You can go through them and see if that's something that makes sense for you. Good luck!

I’m not 1000% sure this will fit in the mq250 trans but I think it might? I remember someone posting something similar in an old thread, maybe someone with more knowledge can follow up on this post haha

I actually got this, but it didn't fit my 5 spd and I had it way too long to return.

Send me shipping and I'll send it to you.

Better option is going for gti 6spd swap. That's what I'm doing

Nah I got a 5 speed too :/ I saw you posted your transmission is broken as well?
I’d be interested if you sold your wavetrac haha

Using a shop or banging your head against the wall yourself? Curious in how one of these would go on the FWD 1.8Ts as it'd be a nice backup to have should the 09G grenade on me. Either way I hope you share the adventure and info!

I'll put up the wavetrac for sale when I get it back. Will also have a bfi stage 1 transmission mount. Both were on the car for 1600 miles.

Using a shop. I can barely change spark plugs.

Not sure which part your referring to as far as having a backup.

The ability to swap to a 6MT out of the GTI. I've got the Slush box 6spd currently.

I helped Melted Solid install his GTI transmission inside his garage (out of a Mk6 actually, those boxes had tighter gearing than what you get with the Mk7). Not the worst job I've ever done, but certainly involved. Look up DIY's on clutch jobs for Mk7's to get an idea what you're in for. I know a GTI owner managed a error-light free manual swap on their DSG, kept the original wiring harness and everything. Don't know how different the slushbox swap would be, but hopefully it would be similarly possible.
