Replacing Steering Wheel Center Badge

Does anyone have instructions on how to replace the badge with the VW logo in the steering wheel?

I don't think it is intended to come off. These things just stick over the one on the wheel - but - do you really want this thing flying around if the airbag deploys.

No, I don't. That's why I wanted to find out if there is a way to replace it instead of slapping on a make-believe cap.

Can I ask why? Is it damaged or do you just want to change the look? I would suggest some vinyl from Klii or badgeskins if you're just looking to spice it up.

You need to replace the entire airbag to get the emblem which is part of it. Do not use a stick on thin metal one unless you want an object like a razor blade flying in your face in an accident. There’s a reason it’s not available separately.

It's probably like even the MK5's, permanently attached to the airbag cover. When the airbag inflates its going 200 MPH. The cover could propel the badge through you.

Try these guys out. They have solids and patterns that go in the VW emblem. It changes the look and won't cause an issue with the airbag. I have a red inlay and really like it. I like the Clark plaid inlay a lot too.

thanks for the link. i'm going to have a look myself. most importantly is not to have the issue with the airbag but you've said you have a red inlay, do they have the original one? whatever the case - thanks a lot

From the factory it's just gloss black and the little pieces of vinyl go over it. Here's what mine looks like with the red.
