This is the best dash mount I could find. I didn’t want some cheap mount and I don’t like the suction cup mount on the windshield. Hate the vent mounts. Why block the air coming out of the vent with your phone? Lol never understood that. In my other cars I have always used a CD holder phone mount, but the 2018 Golf R has the CD drive in the glovebox. The suction can be cleaned off by rinsing and drying and then it’s good to go. Been using it for a few weeks now. Sticks right on the dash. Just make sure where you put it is cleaned off and doesn’t have any detail spray or anything on it. No complaints!

Pics of this installed in your car? Seems like it would be quite a bulky wart on the dash. Are you certain that long term there is no ill effects between the dash materials and the micro suction material they are likely using?

I used this setup for about a week until I had to charge my phone. Having the cable go down the middle of my screen drove me nuts.

I moved it to the left of my steering wheel and ran a charging cable to the small flip out box, works great and is out of the way.

Pics of where you mounted it/how you ran cable? Do you have to open the box when you need to have the phone plugged in?

Now that I've been using CarPlay more since Waze has come to it, I'm finding I don't like this setup nearly as much since I can actually live in the CarPlay world, and I've been shoving the phone into the cubby in front of the shifter.

Excuse the one pic, the sun was being stupid :)
I ran a USB C cable from the 12v in the arm rest (5v3a) charger for quick charging, hidden all the way to that cubby. I can close the cubby easily with the cable sticking out, putting it back in there when I don't need it. Very clean.

I’ll post a pic once I get home. I love the mount. I did a lot of research before buying a mount. Has good reviews from others as well. Not bad price wise either. It’s on sale on amazon right now too!

Got it. You don't have quite the same mount as I do, I'm not sure mine would work as well in that position and would also block being able to direct that vent at me, which having it in the middle doesn't do if the phone is vertical.

The alternative for me is to do what Sabo did, he was the first member on the forum I found to use the mount I have, and put the cable up through the center of the dash and have it pop out through the center vent, staying magnetized to the mount when not in use and being right there for easy connection if you have your phone up there.

Here are some pics. The mount can be retracted and it can swivel around as well. If I get tired of the spot it’s at I can always move it.

Hello,

I've used ProClip mounts for years and think they're great! See the photo below.

The bigger question is how are you all running cables up to your phones?
Has anyone tried routing the cable from the center cubby, behind the trim, and through the air vent? Would this even be possible?

These are old questions, but I had my cable routed behind the trim, MIB2 display, out through an air vent, and to a Qi charger that I had Goop'd to a ProClip mount:

If you have CarPlay/Android Auto, just keep it out of the way with D-Docks. Takes care of cable management too.

I decided to give the D-Dock a shot. I'm still getting used to not having my phone where I can see it. But I'm inclined to think it shouldn't be a distraction, anyway:

I don't think Android Auto is as comprehensive as CarPlay (CarPlay seems to match the iPhone appearance better than AA matches Android). Regardless, I prefer the MIB2 interface for music (SD card) and phone and only use AA for GoogleMaps and Waze. Both look great on an 8-inch display.

I was considering a D Dock. I like to just plant my phone and have it connect to Android Auto. He was all out when I got my car so I grabbed a $26 Pro Clip mount and used the Craig's Dock from my old car. I just grabbed a JB4 so I'm thinking this may be a good solution for all my needs.

so a question about this style mount....I assume you get some type of stick on adhesive. How is that to remove after long term? What about using silicone RTV? Overthinking this am I? (Yoda voice) it does do the bonus of hiding the airbag light and I do like simple.
