That's what VW used to install to curb diesel emissions during testing. They were supposed to remove all of those, but apparently they forgot to get yours.

I have been monitoring my mpg and am currently getting over 55 mpg, while driving at a constant
90 mph.
Glad they overlooked removal.

Had something similar happen to me, bought my GTI and when my leg hit the steering column a random un-threaded screw fell out. No idea where it went, since nothing was missing in the steering column so I guess VW likes throwing in some freebies with the car

Got a Mark 1 Rabbit eons ago. Drove home and opened the hood and found a huge screwdriver sitting on top of the engine. Freebie.
