Water leaking into boot from air flaps, grommet purpose

Hi,

Does anyone know what the grommet does that sits on the chassis below the air flaps?

I have sealed my flaps up with silicone but I am still experiencing a leak on one side (the fuel cap side).

Anyway I was poking around below the flap and pushed the grommet out and all the water drained away, is there any danger to not replacing the grommet or sealing the hole?

It seems like a good drainage point for water getting into this part of the car.

Cheers,

Derick

cars with sunroofs have a drain tube that exits out that hole. I am assuming your car does NOT have a sunroof, hence no tube and a grommet instead.

I imagine the grommet is just used to seal the car, no major issue by removing it other than exposure to the elements.

If you still have a leak after using sealant on the flaps, you probably didn't seal them up enough. I'd recommend replacing the flaps with brand new ones then add the sealant.

Thanks KyaCrash :)

I resealed them last night, I also sealed around the fuel inlet (another place it can leak apparently)

Hopefully I won't see any more water in this area.
