I have some noise going over bumbs etc, had my dealer check things out, and they recommended replacing the upper strut mounts and bearings for $1600 ??

Sounds a little bit excessive to me, how much you guys been paying for this?

You’re not far from my shop, but it’s still a 2.5hr drive.

At $1600 they’re price gouging on the parts.

We use OE VAG parts and only charge $115/hr, when everyone else on the region is at $190+

I’ll shoot you a DM in a moment.

This is what's known as the "Get Fucked" price. They don't want to do it, and they're hoping you won't return. But if you do, they're going "get money" for the job. Definitely find another shop and definitely don't tell them what the previous quote was.

EDIT:
This is most of what is needed to do the job.

Then there is probably $50~ in single use bolts that will need to be replaced. -> this is ball park for the bolts. I don't recall specifically what the cost was.

The job likely takes a shop 2-4 hours I would guess. And they'll do an alignment.
