Bought car with rear passenger speaker dead. Paid deductible for VW to replace. Did some work on car and scanned after. Showed front passenger door speaker as dead.

I remember speakers would burp when blown. These both just went “dead”. Is this common or am I dealing with a larger issue? Not sure I want to send car to dealer for this speaker when they’re shit anyways. Prob just slap two new drivers in doors.

I am not aware of a systemic speaker problem. Fairly straightforward to replace speaker (those rivets are a challenge) and a few DIY on removing door panel. Always good practice particular on rear door speakers to chalk around the speakers due to the systemic problem of water leakage. There are few threads concerning. https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/re-door-leak-on-speaker.373324/#post-7423823 If replacing, I would definitely replace the door check strap as that is one of my favorite mods as the stock door opening sucks (11" opening, no second stop). Write up provides input on speaker fastening rivets. https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/diy-door-check-strap-replacement.344003/

Wow, thank you for the write up on the door check strap! I was just thinking the other day why are my two options either uselessly narrow or way too gd wide lol. Definitely gonna check this out, kudos.

Agreed very strange. Didn’t work on way to drop kids at school but worked after on way to work and all day since.
I wiggled door harness and it did nothing. Wiggled connections in back and nothing. I did install a new ethanol gauge but IDK what that would do to it. May disco in the morning to see if it changes speaker

Bump.

lost two front bass speakers now. They don’t work during morning drives but do work later in day. Strangest thing ever. Highs work fine
