Rms leak or timing chain cover gasket?

I recently noticed an oil leak underneath my 2017 golf R. I originally thought it was from the rear main seal but the further I look into it the less im certain that is the source. What I notice is a lot of oil leaking from the timing chain cover that is making its way down that side of the engine. The puzzling part is that leak continues from the timing chain cover down and all along the backside of my engine between the block and the head. It then seems to make its way all the way to where it meets the transmission. From there it seems to drip down making it look like it’s coming from the rear main seal. Can oil leaking from the timing chain cover travel sideways along the seem of the block and head? If its not that does anyone know why oil would seep from between the block and head? and does anyone know if this is just a pcv gone bad or just timing chain cover?
Thanks
