Question about LED Tails

Nuc1ear_Rabbit

Passed Driver's Ed
I recently bought some OEM LED tails (without fogs) and they have not been coded yet. Is it normal for the reverse light on the left side of the car to be bright red when not coded?

I called up ECS Tuning (where I purchased them) and they said they possibly sent the fog version of that light by accident. They sent another left-inner light and it is still doing the same thing, turning bright red when in reverse. Did I happen to receive fog versions of the tails by accident again?

I had the impression that when you get non-fog LED's that the only issue are the errors you get on the dash.

I did a search for people possibly with the same problem and didn't find anything.

Thanks in advance guys.

I saw a guy who had LED tails that weren't coded and he had the same red light on the same inner left light. After he coded it, it went away.

Mine are like that but I have the rear fog. I am trying to figure out how to work these damn things. ha ha I wish I spoke Mandarin. I heard I have to run a wire from the tails up to the switch? Is this true?

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong here, but all that the coding does is turn off the "bulb out" error. I have the LED tails w/o fog and I had no red light either before or after I coded it. I think you have another incorrect light.

ECS can get a bit frustrating, at times. When I ordered my lights, I got bad harnesses. They gave me instructions on how to fix them, but they still didn't work right or reliably. They sent me another set of harnesses and they were exactly the same as before. This time I was able to correct them and now they work fine. But it was a little frustrating. I think I swapped out the new lights with the originals five or six times before I finally got the harnesses correct. But through all that, never a red light. I think you have the wrong part.

That's a rear fog light my friend. They both should be clear white light when engaged in reverse.

This is exactly the problem. You were sent the wrong lights twice. Non-fog should have a white light on the left inner and therefore its a reverse light. You would have two reverse lights like before.
Its absolutely nothing to do with harnesses etc.
Coding would just remove the bulb light issue - the correct coding should keep both white lights lighting up in reverse.

Get them to send you out another one again - and to make sure its correct before they send it.
I believe the rear fog is an led light - the reverse ones are bulbs. So they just need to check it has a bulb and not led before they send it out. No need to power it up. Its not that hard for them.
Also get them to give you a refund for the shipping you paid as compensation for their stupid mistakes twice. Can try i suppose

So with my R20 LED tails WITH the rear fog... WHAT do I have to do to make it work? I have the Euro switch installed as well... I cannot find a straight answer searching here or Vortex, but I am impatient and want instant answers...

yes I did, I am hearing that I have to run a wire from my tail lights up to my headlight switch.. is this true?

to override the fog and give u reverse on driver side? IDK..never heard that.

The vendor owes u the correct set. do u have proof u ordered non fog?

u could try different coding in byte 18 and see if any gives u both in reverse. then u would just need a white bulb.

these are byte 18 codes that have worked for ppl with oem led tails:

1F,04, 15, 55, 20, 53, 43 ,33 ,03 ,51 ,21

All units will need coding to complete the install. Changing the coding directly to 00 will not result in setting back to factory default. In order to set the module back to factory default for North America, first code to 03, then back to 00.
