Number plate bracket on UK cars

Is the number plate bracket on the front of UK cars necessary? I've got a personal plate thats less digits than the current format so rather than have a lot of white space I'd like to put a (perfectly legal) short plate on.

I know cars in the US don't always have a plate on the front but does the UK bumper come factory fitted with the black plastic plate bracket or can i request the dealer not to fit it? I'm happy with self adhesive sticky tabs holding the plate on.

The spacing has to be of a standard, my plate has 5 digits and looks fine.

The rules say it's legal provided the spacing is correct, characters are the correct size and there is 11mm between the edges of the characters and edge of the plate.

I prefer the look of a short plate so I'm just wondering if it's possible or are the brackets fitted at the factory?

Ask them, some on other forums have asked before but I bet they forget and drill the holes before you collect. I would certainly try though
