MK8 GLI shifter (dsg) on a mk7.5 golf r

maybe this is a stupid question but has anyone tried/seen a mk8 gli shifter (dsg) on a mk7/7.5 golf r/gti?
It looks similar enough and I feel like the button basically just unlocks the gates so you can shift the car in and out of the PRND, etc.

You can get them from a site called DSG Paddles. Got one sitting in a box right now. From what I can tell it’s super easy. Pull apart the shit area, pull the old shifter, plug the new one in and you’re done.
