Lumpy idle, possible timing chain? CODES

Hi guys,

Over the past few weeks I’ve noticed my car has been what I’d describe as ‘lumpy’ when idling sometimes. It sounds as though it’s not firing on all cylinders, quite rough.

Generally once I get driving it’s okay but there has been a few times when it has felt jerky at points. Although this isn’t always.

I used OBD11 and looked at the codes and they are as attached in the image.

I took it to a generic garage for MOT and asked them to have a look while they had it.
They agreed they were able to replicate the lumpy and rough sounding idle and also saw the codes but cleared them off and weren’t sure of the definite cause.

Since then I’ve taken it to a VW specialist local to me. They weren’t able to replicate the fault and because the previous garage had cleared the codes, couldn’t see the codes either.
They did note however that the timing chain appeared stretched when checking the tensioner and suspect that it could be this. They said they’ve done loads of cupra’s etc. with it and that it can be common although because they couldn’t see the codes, they couldn’t be sure.

I did show them the photo I have and they said it seems likely.

They’re wanting around £1000 to change the chain and the auxiliary also. Not sure if this is fair or seems steep?

Does anyone have any experience in codes of the timing chain and could shed any light on this?
Does this seem likely? Would you say the price is fair? And also, how long in theory could I leave the car in this state? It’s not actually too problematic for me at the moment but I know that if your chain goes then it can lead to much bigger issues.

Car is a 2014 and only on 65k miles btw.

Not sure about the cause of your faults but £1000 is pretty reasonable for a timing chain job imo
Okay man, thank you! I appreciate that insight and I’ll bare it in mind when I end up getting it done 😊

I’d get a third opinion. Timing chain seems nuclear option for misfires, which these cars tend to do a lot.

This is true, but the cam codes paired with it don’t look good. It could be separate issues as well. If the oil change intervals are too far apart, could be a sludging in the phasers causing this. Being it’s a slow response and and not a correlation code makes me wonder if there is less of chain issue and more of an actuator issue. I’m not super familiar with the codes that tend to set on these.
