I just bought some Motegi M146 SS6 18x8.5 et42 wheels. I am on H&R sports

I was planning on getting 245/45/17's for these wheels but I'd really like to avoid rubbing.

would a 235/45/17 be more suited for the wheel size? I dont really want them to be smaller than my current wheels/tires as you can see i have some gap in the back

I'm really confused, and it may be why you're not getting any responses yet. Did you buy 17" or 18" wheels? The tire sizes you're referencing are 17", but your wheel is an 18". Some clarity may be able to help get the answer you need.

Hopefully someone can help now haha.

I don't really have a lot of input here. I run the stock size 225/40 on 18x7.5 Lagunas I picked up from the MK6 generation. Think I'm going to bump up to 235/40 next time around.

I'd be less worried about rubbing than the speedometer difference on the 245/45 since you'll be getting wider and taller with them.

Pretty negligible difference, Seattle potholes are trash

I ran 235/45R17 for a few years and it was a great compromise of handling and daily driving comfort. It wasn't until I hit a random block of concrete that had been dropped in the middle of the road, that I finally damaged a wheel.

I currently run 255/40R17 (on 8.5 inch width wheels) on both my GTIs. Et 45, no rub ever. ET 43 very slight rub on the front when at full suspension compression. 245/45R17 shouldn't rub.

I’m also not sure if the wagon is somehow different as far as rubbing or not, I have a sportwagen

Thanks. Might play it safe with the 235/45 on H&R sports
