So I've got a 2008.5 GTi and while she's starting to show her age, I've been able to fix just about everything that's come along so far. Before I go tearing things apart, I thought I'd ask ya'll if you can identify the noise.
The noise is a whistling/whining sound on cold start. It sticks around until everything is all warmed up. It's coming from near the accessory belt but it is definitely not the belt making the noise. Depending on the outside temp, it can move from a whistle to a whine to a chirping. Definitely coming from the belt side of the engine.
My guesses are either a turbo bearing on its way out, or possibly the tensioner. If this isn't enough to go on, let me know and I'll get a recording. Thanks!
