My quick look at that PDF... seemed to have more steps than required by VCDS. I also don't know why it says VCDS can't do the adaptation. That's definitely what I used, and I'm not alone, not to say that OBD11 can't do it. One thing I noticed is that it tells you to "slide to write" values at the beginning. That's something I don't remember doing. I did check real time monitoring to verify the values said calibration was possible, and I looked at the raw values being reported by each sensor. But I didn't write anything before doing the basic settings.
What I will say is that if I plan to do any adaptations, coding or basic settings that require security access the first thing I do is enter the security access code. I don't know how to do this in OBD11... It looks like If a module responds that security access is required then OBD11 prompts you to enter the code, if I'm following those pictures correctly.
I would think that should still work, unless the module doesn't like that you tried to run basic settings without having already entered the code to begin with.
