The MK7s had them until 2016 or 2017. My 2017 does not have one.
I scored a 2015 complete glovebox with lock on eBay for cheap and plan to re-key the lock cylinder. The lock cylinder uses three tumblers and each tumbler can be one of four types, for a total of 64 possible combinations. One tumbler is correct for my key. I need two new tumblers to match my key but I need to find a locksmith who has them. The dealer says they don't have access to any tumblers and they refer out all lock work to professional locksmiths.
You can buy the OE glovebox handle for lock cylinder for about $13 USD and the OE lock cylinder is like $95 USD from E-Acca. Or from the link below, but more expensive.
And while you're at it, you could also change the actual glovebox lid/door to the one from 2016 model which has the felt lining. That's about $70 - $80 USD.

Last year on my first try, I found a complete glovebox with latch and lock for $50 shipped from a salvage yard. That might be the best way to go. And the glovebox was the nice felted version that VW deleted on my 2017. So it was a double upgrade.

Looking into getting the glovebox lock on my 2018 Golf R. Really wish it came with this like earlier years...
So, the only parts I would need is the handle and lock cylinder, correct? If I purchase the parts from a VW parts site does it come with a key for the lock or will I have to go to a locksmith/dealership?

You will likely have to rekey it, the key is just the car key, so most auctions wont include that. Most locksmiths don't keep the wafers needed to rekey the lock on hand either. So your best bet would be buying a set of wafers on ebay, or two, and rekeying it yourself. It's not very difficult.
I spent about $48 on the glovebox (for cylinder and handle) and $15 on wafers from ebay to do this on my '18 R.

Another option may be to simply buy an old vw lock and get the wafers out of that. At that point you're gambling though if you'll get the right wafers.
