Gear selection problem

Got in car to go to work and had difficulty selected reverse gear.

Also found that first is where third should be, second where fourth should be and couldn't get fifth or sixth when stood.

RAC wouldn't touch the car but did follow me to local VW dealer.

Anyone experienced anything similar? Dealer is talking internal inspection of gearbox which has me worried.

I've had no gearbox problems up to now - no whining, crunching or difficulty selecting.

I've never had your gear problem. I have found that when quickly going from reverse to first, it often sticks in reverse.

exactly the same thing happens when my wife drives it, so it cant just be my crappy gear changing.

Probably not the gearbox itself but the shifter on the gearbox or the shifter wires.
Don't panic. Your stealer will sort it out. Let us know tomorrow.

Dealer and did sort it out and it was the gear selection linkages that were out of adjustment.

Have to say, gear selection feels lighter and reverse is now easier to get so I don't know how long it has been going out of adjustment.
