Used jb1 with data cable. I had this on my mk7 gti for about 6 months. I was running map 1@5.2 and it was great! I upgraded to a Cobb AP w/ custom tune.

It WILL WORK on the Golf R as well.

I don't think this one will work on the golf R. If you go to burger tuning.com this is group 2 you need group one for the golf R
