Which is best: Manual or Automatic shifting? No DSG, but 6-speed auto with S mode and shift paddles.

If it's a guy that's good with the manual trans I would say that they're pretty equal. That torque convertor trans isn't nearly as fast shifting as the DSG.

It's very slow shifting. Is that solved with a TCU tune, or even ODBeleven?

There is no tune for the torque convertor trans in the 1.8 that I'm aware of.

On an auto, your best bet is nailing the launch. Getting the correct launch technique yields exponential gains at the end of the run. Let the tranny shift itself down the run.

None yet. Installing the puck and getting a stage1+ tune next year

On the 1.8 Tsi auto trans you're best off just letting it choose when to shift.

But I thought it chooses to shift at redline. I also thought that was not optimal.

D or S mode?
