According to Autoexpress the Mk8 GTD, due in 2017 will use 'a more potent version' of the all new 2.0 Bi-turbo diesel engine just fitted to the Passat.

It currently kicks out 237BHP and 500nM of torque so I can only guess that in the Golf, this will be marketed as the diesel 'R' with the GTD getting a more moderate upgrade from the existing 182bhp

Sounds like quite a car!

Heard that they are planning to use a third, electric, turbo on this engine, which will result in 270+ ps...

It'll ripple tarmac in a monumental way but it's going to have a 5200 rpm rev limiter and won't be much use above 4000 anyway. For pulling caravans up hills, buy a diesel. For everyone else get a petrol! ;)
