If you have the purple plug in underneath your steering wheel the obd11 will allow you to access certain aspects and options of your GTI such as as window controls from your remote, seatbelt warning, door open alarm. And others I'd say obd11 is worth the money for those 3 options.

I dont know about cobb but ,The obd 11 will also tell you any fault codes when you "scan" it.
My gti is 2018 s.e. 80,000 something miles and they said the chain doesn't need changed until 120,000miles

Cool, I think it's worth the money for the window controls from the remote alone. Hopefully you find some other stuff on there you'll find useful too.Seat belt alarm.windows from remote function, and door open alarm are the 3 I recommend.
Enjoy!

Cobb will read the codes and clear them. OBD11 can also read and clear some codes. Cobb cannot change any module parameters like the OBD11 can. They are both useful to have, IMO.
Also, learn to do the adaptations and changes yourself with OBD11 rather than use the built in apps, this way you are aware of exactly what changes are being made.

That. Plus if you are going to do any tuning you'll need the Cobb Access Port or other method of tuning in addition to the OBDeleven.

Also be aware that your AP does not need to be plugged in 24/7 after flashing, so if you need to scan for codes you can simply unplug it from the OBD2 port and plug in your appliance of choice (OBD11, VCDS, etc). I'm flashed with EQT Stage 1 and keep the AP in the glovebox, and have a P3 gauge hooked up for displaying metrics. When changing tunes, be sure you've got your AP plugged into the car directly though, no OBD2 splitters or things of that nature.

Good point. A lot of people think they need to keep the AP plugged in.
