Has anyone had this offered and had it applied. My dealer is offering as part of a protection pack and wondered what the final result is like?

I had it applied. I'm not what they do to the outside and I'm not entirely sure how something on the paint can last forever.....

But for the inside i brushed against some flowers (ironically the ones VW Gave me with the car) while I was in the house. Got pollen ALL OVER the back of my shirt and didn't notice.

Got into work and spent all day being told "pollen doesn't come out" and thought to myself omg I've ruined my shirt.

Got to my car and looked inside (brand new golf GT) and it was ALL OVER the seat. Rubbed off from my back all over the seat. Yellow.

My heart completely sank as I remembered being told it wouldn't come out of my shirt.

Got home.... Got out my small handheld dyson.... And the pollen hoovered right off without any fuss at all.

It was worth it just for that haha

Personally no I'd not have it done to my car. Typically the guys in the garage at most VW garages don't really know or care that much how they apply this product.

You're better off saving your money and spending it on a professional detailer which will give you much better results.

The salesman gets commission from selling these rubbish paint protection schemes and you can get it done at a fraction of the price at a detailers or cheaper if you do it yourself.

Amazing how the sales try to also sell it on used cars when it already has it applied and it is supposed to last............

Waste of time and will likely cause more damage. Go to a pro detailer and get a proper job done for less money.

Mark, I'm interested when you say " likely cause more damage", could you expand on what that damage would or could be?

It's not so much the Lifeshine that causes the damage, however some dealers are very good at adding swirl marks and scratches to a car during the clean they give it when preparing the car. After this they 'seal in' the scratches etc. with the lifeshine kit, eaning to get rid of them, this needs to be removed, the car machine polished to remove the scratches and then resealed.

Also, for the £300(ish) it costs, you could get the car professionally detailed/sealed to a much higher standard or alternatively kit yourself out with everything a 'home detailer' would need to care for the car for it's whole life if that's what you like doing.

Sealant systems need to be applied to perfectly clean paint. New cars (in particular those that have been rail transported) invariably have contaminates bonded to the paint which take time and specialist material to remove - this is rarely carried out in the 45 minutes or so dealers allocate to applying Lifeshine so in effect the contaminates are sealed in. Polishing and applying the sealant to less then perfectly clean surfaces generally results in swirling, made more likely by the often less than perfectly clean application cloths used.

This is a time consuming and specialist job, wholly unsuitable to being left to time-pressed dealer valeters.

Don't do it!

I had it applied by the dealer on my Golf. I then got a refund (hard fought for). Main reasons for not doing it...
  • It costs a fortune (£350 from memory). £250 is commission for the dealer.
  • It doesn't last. Water doesn't bead after a couple of weeks. To "refresh the treatment", Autoglym suggest re-applying wax. So then the beading will be caused by the wax... duh...
  • The internal treatment doesn't last either. I have a couple of stains after 1 year. The technology on the fabrick stuff is the same as Gore-tex - a fluorocarbon compound that repels water. It needs to be reapplied after it gets rubbed off through wear and tear.
  • The dealer will scratch your car. They did to mine, especially in the door handle dips.
  • Detailers will do a much better job for the same price.
  • You could do a better, more long lasting job for much less. I bought Gtechniq Exov2, plus clay kit, plus polish, plus panel wipe, plus car wash, etc. etc.. This is epic, long lasting sealant.

I had Lifeshine applied to my car by the dealer, and have been happy with it so far. They did a deal for GAP insurance + Lifeshine for £600, which I thought was OK. The paintwork looks immaculate with no scratches or swirls, and water still beads after 3 months.

However, I can appreciate that the standard of work may well vary between dealers, and you can almost certainly save a bit of money by going elsewhere or DIY.

This was included -free - on my last car, black Seat Leon, as a deal clincher. Made hardly any difference, assuming the dealer actaully applied it, disappeared after 3 or 4 washes. Best get your car professionally treated or DIT - Do It Thyself. It's very satisfying, quite therapeutic in fact and that way you know it's done properly with no added scratches / swirls. Hopefully....

Not worth it in my opinion I have the lifeshine kit not officially it is just like autoglym glorified egp.. If you really like to take care of your car paint look out some basic detailing articles or if you don't want to bother take it to a detailer to apply proper ceramic coatings like gtechniq and cquartz it will cost just as much and I almost forgot don't take your car to 3£ car wash is the most grateful thing you have done to your car! Speaking as a detailing hobbiest mind....

Thanks all for the comment. As a result I've ditched the Autoglym and upgraded the sound system money better spent.
