Yes, 20 years ago and love going to work every day. Not always fun, but always learning cool stuff as the technology grows.

Systems Engineer.

Another Charger guy? Nice. I traded in my '12 RT for the GTI. Anyways how long have you been in the field? What would you say is your biggest pet peeve or problem with your choice?

I'm looking at UC berkeley and apparantly have a BA degree in computer science and I was concerned that it might not be as sought after as a BS computer science degree. Any thoughts?

I have a BS in Computer Science (emphasis in Information Systems) earned in 1995. Ended up staying with my college job (UPS) and getting promoted a few times. KIND of used the degree. Ended up being an "automation specialist" of sorts, dealing with voice recognition systems, industrial controls, 2D barcode readers, writing and supporting database-based package sorting and tracking software, working on laser dimensioning systems... Lots of variety.

Had I to do it again, not sure what I would have done, just not what I'm doing ;) Not making enough money for what my skills and experience are, and unfortunately working at a specific company for 23 years dulls you down to company-specific skills. Never wanted to be a programming cube-monkey, but in retrospect maybe that was the way to go. Dunno.

Ive got a BA in anthropology. Needless to say its not a very sought after degree. its gotten me absolutely nowhere (3 years pushing pollies at a commercial furniture company).

Back on topic, I'm about a month away from taking the A+ certification tests, so I'm kind of in the same boat as OP. Any advice? What should I expect? Where should I start looking for a new career?

Thanks guys!

i took the A+ cert tests in 1998. bet theyve changed a lot since then. i took the pc technican one and the i-net+ one. i guess they're good to get your foot in the door somewhere, but not a long term cert.

After 20 years what would you tell someone looking into the field to watch out for?

Watch out for developers. They're a pain in my ass. :). No offense blankwavercade or Halvie.

Look for something that really interests you and you think is really cool. There's nothing worse than working with technology that you can't stand or find boring.
