5k rev limiter?

Just a comment on an observation this morning.

I have heard RJRacing and others mention a rev limiter appearing at 5k in 1st gear.

I have hit it a few times and it's always with heavy wheel spin with ASR off. I believe it's a rev limiter which kicks in when the ECU believes the engine is free revving, which is effectively what heavy wheel spin in first gear is.

It doesn't limit rev, it cuts power. You note it as a noticeable drop in acceleration, but it'll rev past 5k no problem...

In my case the ECU completely cuts throttle like a rev limiter. It became obvious when I installed the DP, because I hear back-wrap as if I lifted to shift while holding ~50% throttle.

You are correct the engine does revs past 5k but this is due to angular momentum. I could confirm with logs but it seems obvious.
