Replaced both hatch rubber boots today. 4 years ago I broke the upper locking mechanism. Tried to glue them, used silicone, butyl, … but nothing really sticked forever.
If you need to replace the right side and you have the rear view camera be prepared to remove all hatch trim pieces. No big deal. Tie all wires and rear window washer hose together with tape. With a little bit of dry lubricant everything goes out and in pretty quick.
If you need to change the left side take your time. First of all you have to remove the rear spoiler to unplug the third brake light. Either stupidity or temperature was in my way. Wasn’t interested in making the next couple second mistake that turns into hours of repair work. Decided to add a little connector for the third brake light.
With removing the bigger hatch connectors I was able to pull the wires through the broken grommet.
There was no way to get them through the new rubber. Wasn’t interested in braking things again. Decided to unpin all wires and repin them after install again. Luckily the white wires are all marked w/ numbers.
What a relief, they all went through.
All back in and everything works:
