when I was installing, i added the tape to do a few things. I wanted to prevent tear out when doing the drilling but i also wanted to be able to mark where i wanted the screw holes to go. I held the backing part of the skirt, the part the screws go thru, in place where I thought it fit best, got it as level and well positioned as I could and then i used tape to hold it in place. since I was using a black tape, I used a silver sharpie to carefully indicate where i wanted to drill the holes for the screws. I was as careful as possible when making the marks for the screw hole since you only get one shot at this project. thats about it, best of luck!
