HPFP issues?

Since my switch to IS38 I have been experiencing an issue where I would loose all power almost like it went into limp mode during WOT pulls. I was told by my tuner (IE) upon sending these logs with my stock HPFP that it was “on its way out” because it was maxed out and duty cycle was at 100%. So I went ahead and purchased a preassembled unit from 034 Motorsports. Upon its arrival and install I take some more logs and upon logging I run into a completely different issue, I kept experiencing the power loss accompanied by my EPC light and throwing a code P0191, turns out the 034 was defective or something. I then go to a local shop nearby called “New German Performance” to have IE HPFP internals installed, upon logging after new install car ran great didn’t experience any power loss or anything, I sent logs to IE to confirm everything is good and now I’m being told this “With the full OEM pump, Your duty cycle was high and the pressure was not keeping up, Even with an upgraded pin the diaphragm in the pump is weak and can't hold the pressure. We believe this is the Actual pump body as it can't even keep up on pump gas.” So now they are telling me to purchase a new OEM HPFP and have the internals taken out and swapped into a new OEM unit because they believe my pump body is the issue, I have never heard of this before, I’m going to attach the datalogs from each pump. Tell me what you guys think or suggest, I am gonna order a new OEM unit in the meantime.

Any advise is helpful!

So after selling my autotech internal hpfp, I replaced it with a used OEM 40k hpfp and started having same symptoms you describe above....almost like limp mode at WOT. Combine that with knock across all cylinders at any kind of boost. My rail pressure was dropping as request increased, according to my logs.

I replaced the crappy hpfp with a revised OEM version and the issue has not repeated itself.

I have personally used NGP and they're awesome at both locations (Lorton and Aberdeen area).

What fuel are you running? Judging by the OEM pump/IE internal logs I'd be inclined to believe them on the HPFP body being the issue. The HPFP duty cycle hits 100% by 3000rpm. While it may be running okay there is no margin for error. That's too bad on the 034 HPFP. Did they take it back?

I ordered a new OEM pump from FCP Euro next day shipping, IE wants me to run logs on the new stock hpfp and if logs look good they said they want me to have the internals swapped from my current pump. I will report back here once I get all that situated! I hope the new body is all it is!

Running 93 currently and regarding 034, I have a return request open through UroTuning where I bought it, they should be approving it tomorrow!

The new pump is running at 100% duty cycle. I would not want to to live there.

My 034 pump is indefinitely backordered while they sort out a revision to fix the over/under pressure issues. Kind of a bummer. Hope they sort it out, fueling on the high pressure side is harder than it should be on these cars.
I wouldn’t even think about ordering the 034 HPFP at all at this point, I’d do Autotech or IE. I originally went 034 for the ease of a drop in pump solution. But look how that turned out.

I ordered a 034 HPFP and shipping has been delayed until end of this month due to an issue which was mentioned in another thread https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/building-otto.377152/page-9 and shared below. Good thing they are fixing the issue before shipping it to me.

Basically, some had bad Pressure Relief Valves. They were seized, causing a pressure spike. 034 is fixing the issue and will start fulfilling orders again next week.

And 034 said they did “years of R&D testing” on the EQT thread. Lol

The explanation provided to EQT (which was provided to me) was lengthier than that but that's the jist of it. No pumps failed any other way, and it was only causing issues under light load conditions. Worst case scenario the ECU went into limp mode, no damage was done to any cars and they recommended anyone running one to switch back to their stock HPFP / different tune until they got the pumps fixed.

New pumps start shipping next week.

Well it seems there is no ETA for 034 hpfp shipping, leading to my order was cancelled. Now I am looking at other options such as HPA hpfp but is a shame on the 034 hpfp as the price was very attractive.

Have to agree with Diggs. I would get a good good oem HPFP from FCP Euro, and switch to MPI and tune accordingly. Problem solved and you gain some headroom.
