Hi, I received the the grate plate today, pulled the grill, drilled and cut the hole, looks good, almost like it belongs there. I won't be driving today or tomorrow, we have rain and snow again, lol. Great job, thanks for a smoking deal!!!

Awesome, I'm glad you liked it. Those who just get the top piece just line up the piece and make markings with a pencil around it and cut a smaller hole. Those with the scoop piece, I have attached a template on the first post, print that out and use it.

Also everyone the pieces are coming! I'm just a dude who makes these in his garage after work and school, sorry for the slowness. You will get a tracking number when it ships though

Install log.

Pressed a template on top with some paper, marked the cutout based on vents+scoop area.

Hand placed to determine if radiator support stuff would be an issue, didn't seem like it.

Drilled 4 holes into grill at corners of cutout, connected with sharpie.

Roughed out with dremmel cutting wheel.

Test fit was spot on.

Drilled through the four pre-made holes and screwed in. Saw the upper left hole mostly lined up with a larger, existing hole already in the grill. Made a new hole a bit to the right of the existing one. Cleaned up the roughed cutout and tightened everything up. Snug as a bug. First problem was when I went to put the bumper back on I realized my new upper left screw was making contact with some plastic and I couldn't push the grill flush. I had to move my hole again to the right to clear that. Got everything tight and back together.

Radiator stuff did end up pressing on the left side of the scoop, enough to bend the grate a little bit at the front. No big deal, just need a couple more screws to hold it down in the front. 2slow is going to look at his and see if he can revise, but I think my IE IC just makes everything stick out a bit more.

Only thing I'd do differently to fix it is just mount it a little more forward on the grill to avoid the pre-existing grill hole from lining up, and to move the scoop a bit further out from the radiator mount stuff.

It's raining, 33 degrees, and my summer wheels are on, because I am dumb. So butt dyno stuff is going to have to wait a bit.

Product release - Driver side cool air vent scoop

Also received mine!

A big thanks to 2slowvw, this is an awesome product! I appreciate what you’re doing for this platform / community!

Now here’s a pic for those wondering what the open grate looks like. I’ll be testing it out tomorrow even with the shitty weather.

Intake should be louder and turbo spool / response better ... will write back for initial thoughts

It's not really an issue, the piece should function as intended. Just doesn't sit totally flat on top.

You've seen my ocd posts about the volume knob? It's an issue. :p
Oh right, you're one of those. I'd just go with the grate then, fitment is going to be perfect on that regardless of your IC. If you want to go all out, shave the area around the cutout so the grate sits truly flush and glue it in so no screws [emoji2]

I took my grill off and had that same gap when I reassembled it, I examined everything on both pieces and couldn't see any way to seat it any closer, if there is some special trick I could't find it. All the videos I found where the grill was reassembled the people just slap it on with less care and attention then I did.
I worked this out. Just took a little more pressure on one side then the other but it's all flush now.

Sorry for no multi quote sucks on mobile.

Tested out my open grate this morning. Weather conditions aren't the best, BUT ...

So far, butt dyno confirms, turbo def spools a bit quicker and it's more audible

Which intake are you using?

Edit: checked your sig. injen Evolution closed.

Wondering about differences with stock airbox (drop in filter, snow grate removed).

See this is what i get for only checking "subscribed threads"

Let me know when run #2 is a go. I think this would be great for circuit purposes. Not sure how it would fit with the magic/majesty intercooler but I'm interested for sure.

Correct.

Would have to open up the front duct on the intake side + drop in / snow grate removed to get the same benefit from a closed intake system.

If you have all 3 mods for the OEM intake, I can't imagine it being very different than a closed system with 2slowvw grate mod. At that point, its pretty much equivalent in terms of performance
