The Revo Intercooler Pipe Upgrade kit offers incredible power and torque increases by reducing charge system resistance and improving flow compared to the restrictive stock pipework. Designed for the MQB 1.8/2.0 TSI EA888 Gen3 Engine, this upgrade is available for multiple models including VW Golf, Audi TT, A3, S3, SEAT Leon, Skoda Superb and Octavia. Each part of the kit has been designed to increase the overall diameter and increase internal volume. Larger charge air volume in the system means reduced flow resistance, allowing the turbo to expend more energy on air compression and less energy overcoming restrictions; resulting in more power.

CHARGE PIPE DESIGN


The Revo charge pipe is a smooth mandrel bent aluminum pipe, coupled with a custom tapered silicone hose to gradually transition to a larger diameter from the turbo outlet to the hard pipe. The charge pipe is designed to directly replace the OEM part utilizing optimized pipe routing and a unique constant-diameter design. This eliminates restrictions, including dents found on the stock charge pipe while allowing enough clearance from engine parts, increasing performance without compromising fitment.



THROTTLE PIPE DESIGN

The Revo throttle pipe increases airflow by replacing the stock part with an increased diameter, mandrel-bent aluminum hard pipe and reinforced oil resistant silicone hose. The hose connection is ID-matched to promote laminar, uniform flow across the transition of parts, as well as being slightly longer for ease of installation.



ROBUST DESIGN


Only Revo scrutinizes every detail of the existing system to ensure a quality replacement product for your vehicle. Alongside impressive performance benefits, this kit has several OE mounting points for stock wiring and hoses, a water-methanol installation bung and is finished in black with a laser etched Revo logo.



RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT


All Revo products are designed in-house using the latest 3D printing technology, CAD and CFD software. Every product is rigorously tested utilizing an in-house Hub dyno and Revo data acquisition software. The benefits of the Revo intercooler pipe upgrade allows the turbo to run more efficiently, moving a larger volume of air and minimizing turbulence. This increases power and torque, especially in the middle of the rev range as highlighted during controlled Dyno testing.


PERFORMANCE DATA


Fitted to a Skoda Octavia vRS (2.0 TSI EA888 Gen 3) fitted with the Revo IS38ETR Turbo and Performance Pack, the Revo intercooler pipe upgrade gave an impressive gain of more than +27HP and +50NM at 3600RPM when compared to the stock parts being fitted, with a constant gain throughout the rev range, most notably from 3500-5000 RPM.

The Revo Intercooler utilizes unique design features to lower intake air temperatures, minimize pressure drop and allow the engine to produce impressive power and torque with Revo Software. The unique end tank profile promotes internal laminar flow by decreasing turbulence and increasing airspeed into the bar and plate core. This enhances charge air cooling giving you access to more power throughout the rev range.

The limitations of the stock intercooler were apparent throughout testing. The stock part consistently struggled to manage charge air temperatures, even under normal driving conditions. The Revo Intercooler has been designed to improve on every restrictive element of the stock cooler, enhancing cooling efficiency by lowering intake air temperatures by up to 36ºC vs. the MQB Golf R intercooler, allowing you to drive harder, for longer.

The Revo Intercooler was built around a simple principle; create a cooler that can keep up with your demand for power. Designed from the ground up, the Revo Intercooler has much larger core volume than the OEM part and offers perfect fitment, improving cooling by utilising the full volume of the stock location space as well as cold ambient air from the front of the vehicle.

END TANK DESIGN


The stock end tanks are inefficiently designed and create turbulent air in corners. These sections create a natural flow distribution but slow charge air and increase pressure drop. The Revo end tank geometry maintains the largest possible cross-sectional flow area to and from the core. Coupled with a cast interior surface finish, the Revo end tanks allow air to flow freely without obstructions from turbulent air pockets found in the OE intercooler. End tanks play an important part in maintaining pressure and work in harmony with the core to promote airflow, the Revo end tanks are designed to offer the optimal balance between both of these key features.


BAR AND PLATE CORE

Designed with a bar and plate core to maximize the efficiency of heat transfer, the pressure drop is also controlled as the air meets less resistance compared to that of a tube and fin alternative. The Revo Intercooler also features carefully specified fin geometry to maximize cooling properties while minimizing flow restriction. The ambient core side utilizes louvered fins to slow ambient air flow which improves heat transfer, while the charge core side features an offset internal fin design to balance surface area and air resistance to minimize pressure drop.



SILICONE HOSES




Supplied with stronger oil resistant silicone hoses, the Revo Intercooler can be installed using the stock pipework or recommended Revo Intercooler pipework. The internal diameter of each silicone is precisely matched to the outer diameter of the ribbed inlet and outlet connections along with a unique Flush Fit design, allowing a smooth transition between components.


BRACKETS



To ensure precision fitment, Only Revo offers a CNC machined bracket system. Produced to a superior tolerance than that of a cast mounting system, this unique feature also ensures that the supporting brackets are strong and less prone to failure.

The Revo Intercooler was tested in-house to compare the performance against that of the stock Intercooler. First tested on a vehicle running the OEM Intercooler with Revo Stage 2 software, a Revo air intake system and Milltek downpipe, the Revo Intercooler was then installed and tested in the same controlled environment to highlight the benefits of enhanced cooling.

Showing the last of five consecutive dyno runs, the efficiency of the Revo Intercooler over the OEM Golf R intercooler is highlighted. With max gains of +10 HP & +20NM Torque, along with increased performance throughout the entire rev range, the stock intercooler struggles to effectively function in comparison to the Revo Intercooler which remained consistent throughout, losing just 2% peak power over the 5 runs compared to 5% on the stock cooler.



INLET TEMPERATURE





This is a metric used to confirm that testing on the Revo MQB Intercooler. This is used to show that the air temperatures going into the intercooler were similar for each test, confirming that outlet temperatures shown in the following graphs are purely down to differences in intercooler design/construction. As can be seen, the inlet temperatures during testing were hotter on the Revo Intercooler, yet the Revo intercooler produced the lower outlet temps proving the cooling efficiency.



OUTLET TEMPERATURE





This graph illustrates the increased cooling performance of the Revo intercooler vs OEM Golf R intercooler over all five runs. The Revo Intercooler keeps temperatures below 49ºC on the fifth run, lower than the stock on its first at 58ºC.

REVO ENGINE MOUNTS
More power results in more movement during aggressive acceleration. The stock engine mounts, designed to favor comfort over performance, fail to manage axle hop and torque effectively requiring you to ease off in order to gain traction. Designed to significantly reduce this engine movement, Revo engine mounts use Powerflex bushings to minimize noise, vibration and harshness levels (NVH) while drastically improving traction and acceleration. The engine, transmission and torque mounts have been CAD designed to offer OE quality fitment with the performance benefits and quality of a Revo product.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION MOUNT




The primary design goal of the engine and transmission mounts was to provide a management system for engine movement during vehicle operation with increased power/torque, in order to retain vehicle acceleration and tire contact during aggressive driving. The aforementioned solution must also continue to dissipate the NVH naturally created by the drivetrain. To accomplish this, the bushing design of past Revo engine mounts was retained in the MQB engine and transmission mounts, allowing Revo engineers to focus their efforts on bushing stiffness/type to accomplish the task.



TORQUE MOUNT



Arguably the most vital engine mount upgrade to consider, testing highlighted that the engines stock lower torque mount allowed a substantial amount of engine movement to occur. Although some improvements were noted during testing of an insert style upgrade designed to stiffen the standard mount, there was a significant increase in NVH felt in the cabin. This was dramatically reduced when completely replaced with the Revo polyurethane torque mount and also improved acceleration. Fitting the mount does not require the sub-frame to be removed, reducing installation time and the need for axle re-alignment. A Revo installation tool is included to make removal of the OEM mount and installation of the replacement as quick and easy as possible.



MATERIALS, MANUFACTURING & FITMENT

Effective design and fitment plays a principal role in managing engine movement to ensure optimal acceleration and tire contact with the road while dissipating NVH experienced from the drivetrain. Each component has been designed using CAD technology to ensure precision fitment and is supplied with class 12.9 hardware to replace the standard fixings. To ensure strength and durability, brackets and housings are CNC machined from 6061-billet finished with an anodised coating to protect from heat and corrosion.


POWERFLEX BUSHINGS

Powerflex utilises a unique formula of polyurethane, custom designed to ensure optimum fitment in the machined housings. After testing of various amounts of compliance, our engineers were able to fine-tune the final bush to achieve a balance between performance and comfort. Polyurethane is also resistant to oil, fuel unlike the rubber used in the OEM mount which can lead to perishing and failure. Our specified durometers provide a stiffer mount to limit the engine movement without compromising on NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness) levels in the process.

OEM COMFORT, AFTERMARKET PERFORMANCE


To achieve the optimal balance between performance and comfort, several different durometer bushings were tested on a Volkswagen Golf Mk7 GTI. Bushings were systematically tested at precise increments at each mount location. A 3-axis accelerometer was used to quantify the NVH levels being transmitted into the cabin, as well as the acceleration of the drivetrain during loading.

Accelerometer data gave us a way to compare mount combinations against each other with a low data error percentage and to quantify driver comfort as well as engine movement. Supplemental data was taken from VCDS to ensure each individual test was standardised over a given throttle, RPM and speed range. The graph shows the amount of vibration measured whilst driving through the gears.

GRAPH


To ensure this product would meet our exacting standards and performance, we carried out controlled testing on a Stage 4 Skoda Octavia VRS 2.0TSI running Shell vPower pump fuel on an in-house Dynapak hub dyno. With impressive results in comparison to the standard set up, peak results showed up to +41 WHP and +42 NM over stock with an average of +19whp and +25NM throughout the rev range.
