I would go for 1.4 TSI rather than 1.6 TDI. I only recently went back to Petrol after 5yrs driving a MK5 GT TDI 170. Great car, but low mileage (7K/year) meant I ended up with DPF issues which convinced me to make the change.
The 140bhp TSI Petrol is so incredibly refined (sometimes I wonder if it's on) and yet poky when you want it to be. After 1700miles, I'm getting 400 miles/around 40mpg in in Eco mode, while saving a little on road tax and petrol-diesel price differential and no worries about DPF clogging up.
