Oil change service

Hi everyone

Just after a bit of advise if possible, my GTI went into the garage about 3 weeks ago to have a new power unit fitted for the stereo. VW emailed me saying that the other checks that had been carried out that my oil level was low and needed topping up, yeah that's fine
I now have a service notification coming up saying oil change needed in 600 miles, phoned the garage and asked does it really need this after its just been topped up. Trying to charge me £140 for this, my question is does it really need doing?

How old is the car and how many miles has it done?

OCD here but it's a good idea to check fluids when getting fuel. Only takes a few minutes.
Keep a litre in the boot/trunk. Dealer prices are quite expensive and VW specialist garage may be a better choice.

Change it! The top off isn't enough to matter on longevity. If its due its due. Its not worth risking, you could maybe go over 1000 miles. You're tripping over dollars to pick up pennies.

When you top up oil - you mix clean oil with ' dirty oil ' so it is then all dirty oil as it all mixes together. But if they did a full oil change then they should have reset the service lght so was it a top up or a full service & full oil change ?

Bit like the washing up water - add a fresh glass of water to the bowl then ask yourself would I now drink a glass of water from the bowl ......

My dad was a vetran of 30's motoring just gave one bit of advice - no matter what else you don't do always do change the oil ( yes I know oil technology has moved on but just an example ).

So yes ... if it is due change it.

Unless of course you answered yes to the ' would you drink a bowl of washing up water '... or they did a complete oil change 3 weeks ago.

It's 12months old and 11,000 miles, it's the annual service but they completed a full service when it was with them 3 weeks ago :(
Tom - you are confusing us - you said they 'topped up' the oil in your first post - now you are saying they 'completed a full service' - which is it?

Your car should have been serviced when it reached 10,000 miles - now its overdue. if they have quoted you 140 quid - take it as thats a very cheap offer.
