To a computer numpty like me, it is very difficult. I have tried several times (latest being this afternoon), think successfully downloaded, but cannot get it onto SD card. Previously used TomTom for years without any problems.
You can always get the map updates from your VW dealer, though they might charge a fee even during the free upgrade period. I'd just call and ask them or go straight for a visit if it's not too far away.
